Chest feeding is what birthing parents do when they’re feeding their child using the milk their body produces. It is also called lactating, breastfeeding or nursing. We use the term chest feeding as sometimes those other terms can feel awkward or like they exclude some birthing parents. That doesn’t mean those terms are bad or wrong, but our goal with this website is to create a resource for individuals who may not always feel welcome accessing existing lactation support options online. That includes

    • Transgender and non-binary birthing parents and their co-parents

    • Birthing parents in same-sex relationships or with transgender or non-binary partners

    • People considering becoming birthing parents and wondering what feeding options would be available to them and their child

Who is behind chestfeeding.org?

Chestfeeding.org has been created by a group of doctors, birthing parents who have chest fed, researchers, and other people who care about making chest feeding more accessible to everyone!

Can I trust the information on chestfeeding.org?

We believe in showing our work. What does that mean?

    • All of our medical content will be reviewed by a medical provider with expertise in the area/topic being discussed.

    • Where we talk about research, we promise to always show our sources and to provide link to open access versions of manuscripts if available. We will also try to create or link to lay summaries of important papers when free versions aren’t available to the public.

    • When we let you know about a research project, or advertise one on this site, it will ALWAYS have been approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB). That means there will be ethical oversight from one or more academic institutions

I’m in! When is this information going to show up?

I promise that we’re working on it behind the scenes, but we’re a bunch of transgender health providers, transgender people, and transgender advocates, and we’re living in 2025… it’s taking a bit of time. Please be patient! Also, if you’re interested in working on chestfeeding.org, please drop us an email at volunteer at chestfeeding.org.
